Very little is heard about Guinea-Bissau in the news. If a coup d’etat or war breaks out, it’s reported as a flash by some news outlets, but little to no news on a daily or weekly basis. Consequently, even some who consider themselves to be knowledgeable don’t know who the president is, or which political forces are revolutionary. Some have even travelled to Guinea-Bissau “thinking” that the expired neo-colonialist president, Umaro Sissoko Embalo is with the PAIGC. This is worse than mistaking a sheep with a wolf.
When Umaro Sissoko Embalo was inaugurated as president of Guinea-Bissau, 27 February 2020, he repeatedly made public statements that his mission is to destroy the PAIGC. During his trip to Cape Verde, he called on the Cape Verdians to destroy the PAICV. The People of Guinea-Bissau have responded by giving pre-requisites that first he destroy the sun, moon and stop the rain from raining, and only then can he even “think” about destroying the People’s culture organized in its political manifestation: PAIGC! Despite all the persecutions, beatings, arrests, tortures, assassinations, the PAIGC is stronger and becoming stronger.

The neo-colonial ship is sinking in Guinea-Bissau

He and every observer know that he cannot win, even with all manoeuvres imaginable. The desperate neo-colonialists are grabbing leaves thinking that they can save the life of the sinking anti-People regime. They have captured the most important institutions of the State that organize and judge election disputes. They set Legislative Elections for November 2024 and at the last minute postponed them. Since then, the Sissoko Embalo neo-colonial regime unilaterally marked general elections for 23 November 2025. This time, the ECOWAS Heads of State Summit of June 2025, confirmed the date in their Final Resolutions. Against the Constitution, they dissolved the National People’s Assembly, broke the doors of offices of the elected President of the National People’s Assembly (ANP) to occupy its Permanent Commission; surrounded the Supreme Justice Court and the house of its president with masked armed agents an forced him to resign under duress. The Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) didn’t do anything.
The ECOWAS Charter is against these types of coup d’etats and violation of constitutions, but has not stopped it in Guinea-Bissau. Some forces of ECOWAS have tried, but stronger forces have hindered them.
The ECOWAS Heads of State summit of December 2024 decided to send a High Level Political Mission to Guinea-Bissau together with the UN for West Africa. When the Mission issued its Road map that mandated a new CONSENSUS Government in March 2025, to prepare for elections of a new National Electoral Council (CNE), Supreme Court of Justice (STJ), and general elections 90 days later (June 2025), in reaction, the expired neo-colonial president of Guinea-Bissau threatened and did chased them and the Resident Representative of ECOWAS out of Guinea-Bissau.
However, the ECOWAS Armed Stabalisation Mission continues to protect the expired neo-colonial president of Guinea-Bissau, even though his term of office ended on 27 February 2025. They base their position on a bogus argument that the term ends on 4 September 2025, the 5th anniversary of a Supreme Court of Justice decision on presidential dispute.
According to the Guinea-Bissau Constitution, presidential elections must take place three (3) months prior to the end of term. The logic is that there may be run-off elections and time is needed to prepare for the inauguration, which means that even with the logic of 4 September being the end of the term, Presidential Elections should have taken place no later than 4 June 2025.
Any one of the two arguments arrives at the same conclusion: presidential elections should have already taken place, yet the ECOWAS Heads of State Summit of June 2025, resolved to confirm the date of 23 November 2025 for General Elections (Presidential and Legislative).
The Guinea-Bissau Constitution also prohibits an incumbent president from giving post to a new government within 90 days of the end of its mandate. Yet last week, on 10 August 2025, Umaro Sissoko Embalo gave post to a new unconstitutional “government of presidential initiative”. It should be noted that according to the Guinea-Bissau Constitution, any government that takes office must result from Legislative Elections. The political party that has the over-whelming majority forms the government. The PAIGC and its inclusive PAI Terra Ranka Platform won the over-whelming majority in the most recent Legislative Elections.
Will the General elections marked for 23 November 2025 take place?
The overwhelming majority of political analysts all agree that the PAIGC and its inclusive PAI Terra Ranka Platform will comfortably win far more than an over-whelming majority. At the same time that the sparse support for the expired neo-colonial regime dwindled drastically, the enthusiastic support for the PAIGC and its inclusive PAI Terra Ranka Platform increased and continues to grow. When the expired neo-colonial regime convenes a rally, very few show up, even though they are giving money and transport.
